01What this notice covers
This notice describes the Bew macOS browser and this product website. Bew is the new name of Drowser, and current builds run on Gecko, the web engine behind Firefox. Earlier WebKit builds stored data differently. Visiting another website in Bew is also subject to that website’s privacy practices.
02The data on your Mac
Bew keeps ordinary browser data in its profile on your Mac so you can return to your work. Clearing browsing data, removing saved items, or uninstalling the app can affect different categories separately; uninstalling alone may leave the profile behind.
- History, bookmarks, cookies, caches, preferences, workspace names, and the tabs in each workspace are stored in the Bew profile.
- Saved passwords, including Gmail app passwords for the Verification widget, are kept in Bew’s password manager, which you can protect with a primary password.
- Network rules, environment groups, and Form Replay recordings are stored in the profile. Form Replay never stores passwords, card fields, or files.
- Private windows do not save ordinary browsing history, and their workspace details stay in memory. Downloads, files you create, and information sent to websites can remain outside that session.
03Websites and network requests
Browsing sends requests to the sites you visit and to resources those sites load. Those recipients may receive your IP address, request details, cookies, and information you submit. Searches are handled by the search provider you choose. Like Firefox, Gecko includes security services, such as certificate checks and remote security lists, that may contact Mozilla or its service providers. Bew’s local storage does not make browsing anonymous.
04Mozilla services
Bew turns off Mozilla’s telemetry by policy, and Bew builds do not include Mozilla’s automatic updater or crash report uploader.
- Signing in with a Mozilla account is optional. When you turn on Firefox Sync, the data types you choose are sent to Mozilla’s Sync service under Mozilla’s privacy notice.
- Bew’s own setup and import screens do not require an account.
05Updates
Every few hours, and when you choose Check for Updates, Bew asks GitHub’s API for the releases of Bew and downloads a new version from GitHub when there is one. GitHub receives your IP address and a standard request; Bew sends no account, profile or browsing data. Downloads are checked against their SHA-256 checksum and Apple’s Developer ID and notarization before they are installed. You can turn off automatic downloads in Software Update.
06Services you connect
Some features talk to a service only after you connect it.
- Verification connects from your Mac directly to Gmail over IMAP with an app password. It reads recent mail to find sign-in codes and links, keeps them in memory, and can mark used emails as read; you can turn that off. Its activity log records senders and subjects, never codes.
- Meetings reads today’s events from your Mac’s Calendar after you grant access. Pull Requests uses the GitHub CLI you have installed and signed in to, which contacts GitHub.
- Send to Phone shows a QR code with the current page’s address. Your phone then connects to that address directly; for a local server, that is your Mac on your network.
07Importing from other browsers
Import reads the profiles of other browsers on your Mac, or a password CSV you choose, only after you select the browsers, profiles, and categories and start the import. Imported data is written to your Bew profile and is not sent anywhere by the import.
08Terminal and project access
The embedded terminal runs local commands as your macOS user. Commands can read, change, or transmit data within your permissions. Page content cannot type commands into the terminal. Local source editing and Lineage read the project folders you allow; Lineage also keeps recent JSON responses from local development tabs to connect a value with its source.
09Local server discovery
The Local Servers widget lists the web servers listening on your Mac by asking macOS for listening ports. Opening one loads that local page like any other website.
10Updates and downloads
Bew does not check for updates in the background. The download and changelog pages ask GitHub for published releases. Release notes can include images hosted by GitHub or their authors; loading those images and downloading an installer shares ordinary request information with those services.
11This website and support
This website uses optional Google Analytics, loaded only after your permission, to measure page visits and installer download clicks. Events include the website page, installer name, release version, and Mac architecture; we do not send your Bew browsing history, workspace data, or account details. Google receives ordinary connection information and applies its own processing and retention practices. Advertising personalization and Google signals are disabled. You can change your choice using Analytics preferences in the footer. Assets are served by this website. Hosting and network providers can process access and security logs, including IP addresses. If you contact support, your message is used to address your request. Avoid sending passwords, authentication tokens, or full browsing histories.
12Retention, choices, and your rights
Local data stays on your device until you remove it or the relevant browser retention behavior removes it. Third-party services apply their own retention policies. For data held by a support service, you can request information, correction, access, or deletion through the available support contact. Applicable rights vary by location and may include objecting to processing, withdrawing consent, or complaining to your local data protection authority.
13Changes and contact
We will update the date on this page when these practices change. Check the support page for the current contact channel and the cookie policy for website Analytics choices.
